Close
  • Usage of the vehicle; the premiums are not the same for a personal vehicle and a vehicle for professional use such as a taxi.
  • The make and model of the vehicle: the premium is not the same for a Yaris and a BMW X5, simply due to size and cost.
  • The age of the vehicle. A new car has a higher premium than a ten-year-old car of the same type.
  • The deductible amount. The higher your dedectible, the lower the premium will be.
  • Customers who are part of our Stofn loyalty program get a 10% discount of the premium and get a 10% if they have no claims at the end of the year.

Common questions

What is Comprehensive Cover?
Close
  • Comprehensive cover for vehicles is meant to insure policy holders against damage to their own vehicles from accidents not otherwise covered.
  • Comprehensive insurance is not mandatory, but is recommended for all new and recent vehicles.
How do I buy Comprehensive Collision Insurance
Close
  • When you buy a new vehicle, the dealer can send us a request for comprehensive cover. You can also contact us directly.
  • If you are buying a used car we would like to inspect the car before issuing the Comprehensive Collision Insurance.
Does the Comprehensive Collision Insurance cover faults in the vehicle?
Close

  • Comprehensive Collision Insurance does not cover faults or breakdowns in the vehicle, whether it is in the engine or other parts such as hydraulics or if wrong fluids or type of gasoline are used.
What are the most common claims?
Close
  • Algengustu The most common claims from the Comprehensive Collision Insurance is when two or more vehicles are in an accidnet and the policy holder is at fault and makes a claim to his CCI.
  • Another common claim is when policy holders hit stationary objects while driving, such as light posts, railing or parked and stationary vehicles.
What is the deductible, and how high should it be?
Close
  • The deductible is an amount on a sliding scale that you choose. In case of a claim following an accident, you pay the deductible and we pay everything beyond that. So, for example, if the cost of repairing a car after an accident is 500.000kr and your deductible is 100.000, you would pay that 100.000 and Sjóvá would pay 400.000. The higher your deductible amount the lower the premium.
  • Common deductible amounts are between 90.000kr and 150.000.
Does the insurance still pay out if I drive under the influence of alcohol?
Close
  • In cases where the driver is under the influence of drugs or alcohol and causes an accident, the driver him- or herself may be held accountable for the full amount of damages caused.
Am I covered when driving abroad?
Close
  • The Comprehensive Collision Insurance is valid for driving in Europe for up to 90 days. If you intend to stay (and drive) for longer you need additional coverage.
  • Note that the theft cover is only valid in Iceland.
Is the insurance valid, no matter where I drive?
Close
  • Our Comprehensive Collision Insurance is pretty, well, comprehensive. It is valid wherever you drive, including meadows and grassland, snow and ice and over rivers. It is valid on beaches and most land areas. That being said, it hinges on the driver not being reckless or criminally negligent while driving.
  • The insurance does not cover incidents where water floods into the engine, passenger space or trunk of the car.
